Akin Tulubas, and his world besides breeding Turkish Boz Shepherds

Akın Tülübaş, in addition to being the President of the Federation’s Local Dormitories and Association in Turkey, also serves as the national team captain for the Federation in international competitions. In 2019, at the World Championship organized by Alianz Canine Worldwide in Spain, he personally handled two Kangal dogs, Zorro and Karo, winning the titles of World Champion and World Champion of Champions. In 2019, he also achieved first place among all breeds at the European Championship in Italy with his own bred fourth-generation dog named Hercules. This is among the highest achievements a breeder can reach. Akın Tülübaş is well-versed not only in the breeding of working dogs and the preservation of genetics but also in the processes within urban and competition environments. Additionally, he has knowledge of various systems such as the German Dog Method, Schutzhund, French Dog Breeding Systems, Belgian Mondio Ring, and French Ring Sport.

It is difficult to get a full scope of the legacy Akin has developed and striving to improve and expand over the past 30 years. Starting from a dog fancier he fell in love with the Turkish dogs and realized that they were and are being lost. His preservation strategy started with collecting specimens to breed and disseminate, but he soon realized that this was not enough.

He slowly began to educate shepherds and dog owners about the need to pay attention to breeding and what to select for, diet, parasite control and vaccinations and raising methods. Universities, Registries and Kennel Clubs were the next target as he worked to get them to recognize and separate out the different regional breeds based on Cynology. Much of this education and recognition was achieved through dog shows where the public, dog owners, shepherds and Universities could all meet and learn from each other. He trained a team of Judges in Cynology to work at the Dog Shows as he hopes to achieve in the USA to establish and retain a population of properly managed Turkish Boz in the USA.

I personally feel honored to have met Akin 15 years ago when he was still developing his ideas into practice, and now am able to launch this concept of a breed model here in the USA. At a minimum, great genetics will be introduced. If everything does not get destroyed by the human factor, absolutely amazing dogs with be refined to a level of perfection that the world has never seen, or at least not since the major predators were eradicated in that part of the world.
